Flitwick motorcycle racing news

Flitwick motorcycles have a long association with the racing world. Steve Linsdell, owner has raced motorcycles on the track and road since 1979, specialising in more recent years at the challenging Isle of Man  Manx Grand Prix road races.

We have been proud to sponsor many riders over the years including Matt Llewellyn, Nigel "Cap" Davies, and Fernando Mendes .

Olie Linsdell, 27 year old son of Steve and Carole currently competes under the Flitwick Motorcycles banner,  competing at top level in the the major Road races, North West 200, Isle of man TT, and Ulster Grand Prix.

In 2007, At the age of only 19, he took his first win at the North West 200, and two decisive wins at his Debut at the Manx Grand prix, on the challenging TT circuit. He also holds the world record for the biggest winning margin on the Island circuit.

For 2016, we continue our support of Olie, who will compete in both classic and selected modern races, under the Umbrella of Team Flitwick Motorcycles.

25 year old David Linsdell, Steve and Caroles' youngest Son competes with the Classic Motorcycle Club, and for 2016 will ride a Camier framed 500 Yamaha.

Team Flitwick Linsdell’s clean up at Easter 08 April 2010

11 wins from three Linsdell’s- it was a good day at the office.....

Team Flitwick kick-started the racing Season with a visit to Pembrey race circuit in south Wales, over the Easter week-end 3/4th April. All three Linsdell’s were to ride in the CRMC’s first meeting of the year. The Weather forecast was for wind rain and Snow, so we set off in the Team Truck, with Steve Bond, a good friend and one our major sponsors, and with Mervyn and Janet Hacket (our ace Technician and wife) following with their caravan. We’d packed our winter woollies, enough food to feed a small army, and plenty of beer to ward off the cold.
David had travelled on ahead with Mark Woods, also racing this week-end, so we made a more leisurely trip later on the Friday.
On arriving we found that the paddock was harbouring a number of small “lakes” due to the dreadful storms that had hit over the past couple of days, and parking on the main grassed area was therefore not an option. However the organisers came up trumps by directing the parader’s and sidecar teams to the outer tarmac paddock, and allowing solo competitors to park on the new pit lane road- so we had a prime spot!
The downside was no hook up; so many generators were run up until midnight.

Steve would ride the Sealey Enfield 500 in the Group 2 class, needing to get one of the 6 signatures for his Manx Mountain circuit course licence. He would also ride at the VMCC Mallory meeting on Easter Monday. David has full sponsorship this year to ride Bob Lights 350 and 500 BSA gold stars, and couldn’t wait to start the season. Olie had also been lucky enough to be loaned a newly build Matchless G50, for the group 1 class, together with a lovely little Drixton Honda 350 twin, again from the very generous Bob Light.
On arrival the boys signed on, and Olie asked if there was a class that he could ride the Enfield in. He had had a fantastic ride at Cadwell aboard the push rod single, and was itching to ride it again. The organisers said they could put him in with the 1300 post classic, and air-cooled 500 gp3 class.
Saturday dawned dry but cold and windy, with overcast sky indicating that further rain may fall. The track was very wet and slippery. Practice quickly went, and David was first ride after lunch- riding the 350 Goldstar. He had a cracker of a start, pushing up to 2nd early on, and taking the class win- the first win of his racing career- we were all delighted.
Olie was next up, on the little Honda. He had not ridden the bike at all, prior to this week-end so we were all jumping up and down as he roared into 2nd place from the back row of the grid- then proceeded to take the win from Alan Oversby on the last lap!
David 500 Goldstar race came to a premature end when the bike inexplicably cut out at the hairpin, whilst lying in 5th place. Steve and Olie were out on the Enfield and G50, but the new build gremlins crept into the G5O,so Olie’s race on that machine was over, Steve finished 4th in class.
Olie took the little Enfield out in the 1300/500 class without any real expectation of catching the big triples. He again started from the back of the grid, but by the hairpin it was obvious that we had to think it out again! Quickly picking his way through the field, he took the 500 class win by a country mile, finishing 4th overall and with a gap of over a lap in his class. To see him carving his way through the field was fantastic; he rode the wheels off the bike!
So the weekend went on, with Olie taking 8 wins, David two, and Steve two 4ths. David 500 had some mechanical issues, taking him out of the running in the 500 class at this meeting.
Olie is now leading the 350 twin class championship, and David the 350 Goldstar Championship. Olie agreed not to take the points in the 1300/500 classes, as he will not be contesting it proper- but had a lot of fun showing the crowds just what he can do.

The team moved on to Mallory on the Monday, although only Steve would be riding there. The wind was bitter, but it stayed dry, and Steve took the little Enfield to 2nd and 1st place, on the anniversary of his debut there many, many years ago- so a good time had by all.

Next meeting is Scarborough Spring cup, on the 18th April, when Olie will be riding the all new Yamaha Flitwick R1 Superbike for the first time, together with his Flitwick Supersport R6, and Steve will ride the Flitwick FZR400.
If you fancy the trip, pop along and say hello- see you there.....
