Flitwick motorcycle racing news


Flitwick motorcycles have a long association with the racing world. Steve Linsdell, owner has raced motorcycles on the track and road since 1979, specialising in more recent years at the challenging Isle of Man  Manx Grand Prix road races.

We have been proud to sponsor many riders over the years including Matt Llewellyn, Nigel "Cap" Davies, and Fernando Mendes .

Olie Linsdell, 27 year old son of Steve and Carole currently competes under the Flitwick Motorcycles banner,  competing at top level in the the major Road races, North West 200, Isle of man TT, and Ulster Grand Prix.

In 2007, At the age of only 19, he took his first win at the North West 200, and two decisive wins at his Debut at the Manx Grand prix, on the challenging TT circuit. He also holds the world record for the biggest winning margin on the Island circuit.

For 2016, we continue our support of Olie, who will compete in both classic and selected modern races, under the Umbrella of Team Flitwick Motorcycles.

25 year old David Linsdell, Steve and Caroles' youngest Son competes with the Classic Motorcycle Club, and for 2016 will ride a Camier framed 500 Yamaha.

Olie was back on the short circuits riding the 500 twin classic Paton at the CRMC race of aces on 8/9th September.
He had had high hopes for the weekend as it was a track that the Paton could finally stretch its legs! Sharpy and Olie went up on Friday afternoon while David and Steve followed up early on Saturday morning. David Syzmanski of Hanson Building products was also parading the second Paton on the Sunday as well as having a hospitality box for employees and customers, so it was important that the week-end went well.

Given grid number seven for the first club race, this put Olie effectively number three because the grid was to be shared with a guest Scandinavian club who were holding their final round in England!
Getting a reasonable start Olie was fourth coming round for the first lap. Lea Gourlay very nearly highsided coming out of the chicane - a common mistake because of cold left hand side of the tyre at Snetterton - and took to the grass. So our rider settled into second behind Luke Notton until Luke fell at the chicane, and Olie took the lead. Olie led for the rest of the race, until he was very badly baulked coming out of the bombhole by a 350 Goldstar who used NO track. Olie had to overtake him on the right hand white line - coming out of a right hand corner!!! This let Lea Gourlay slip past for the win - he said afterwards he was laughing at how doing the right thing had lost Olie the race...
The second race was a repeat of the first. Lea won from Olie, with Vernon Glashier third. There had been a lot of oil dropped from the other races and the riders were all struggling for grip. It seemed that Snetterton is not as grippy as it used to be - Lea and Olie were nearly 2 seconds off the lap record,set by Lea last year, but were pushing very hard.
Olie felt that the bike was not as fast as it should be and was having quite a few problems with the brakes getting hot and the lever coming right back to the bar, a symptom of the track.

Sundays first club race had looked to be going the same way, with Lea out front and Olie sitting in a comfortable second until our rider went down the gears as normal at the end of the Revvet straight only to hear a horrible noise when he let the clutch out. As he tipped into the left hander the rear end broke away. Luckily he managed to catch it on the clutch (If you look at Olie's pictures he's ALWAYS covering the clutch - 2 year of riding the Aprilia 125......) and take to the grass. On further investigation it was found that the engine had run a big end. Luckily thre was the other Paton so Mervyn and Steve worked flat out to change the front end, gearing etc, to comply with the classic rules (Steves bike was still in Manx GP spec, with Discs on the front, and gearing to suite the Island).
The second club race was going to be a practice to get used to the bike before the important national race later on. Getting an absolute flyer of a start Olie was straight into the lead by the first corner, Olie commented the bike was feeling back to how it should be - fast!
At the bomb hole the bike seemed to jump out of gear which allowed Mike Smith and Lea past. It did it again coming out of the chicane then at the end of the straight the brake came right back to the bar - after only two laps. Olie pulled in as the brake really wasn't safe and he didn't want to hurt the engine by missing gears with the national race coming up. More work and a change of set up to improve the gear change was made.
The final race of the weekend was the national. Olie once again got the holeshot and led for the first half a lap, but he still strugged with the gears- the bike being set up for Steve perhaps making it more difficult. The brakes were much better and Olie was sitting in a comfortable third. Mike Smith tried a little too hard and highsided in a spectacular accident at Corams- bike and rider soaring over the tyre wall!
This left Olie with a second place finish, and just one point off the lead in the Championship going into he final round at Croft! The final round should be interesting........
